Welcoming Two New Voices to Cairngorm Artists: Introducing Graham Moore and Ian Williams
Apr 02, 2026
The Cairngorms have a way of pulling people in.
It might be the shifting Highland light, the quiet of the forests, or the sudden drama of a storm rolling over the hills - but for many of us, this landscape becomes more than a backdrop. It becomes a lifelong conversation.
Today, we’re excited to share that this conversation just gained two powerful new voices.
Cairngorm Artists is delighted to welcome Graham Moore and Ian Williams to the collective - two artists whose work captures very different, but beautifully complementary, sides of the Cairngorms and the wider Scottish landscape.
Meet Graham Moore – Bold Colour, Wild Character
Graham’s work jumps off the wall. Where some artists whisper, he paints in a confident, colourful voice that still manages to feel warm and inviting rather than loud for the sake of it.
His paintings often focus on wildlife and iconic Highland animals, but never as static “portraits.” There’s always a sense of personality, mood and movement.
Sample artworks by Graham Moore
“Neeps in Color”
In this vibrant painting of a Highland cow, Graham takes a familiar subject and infuses it with unexpected energy. Deep oranges, purples and blues tumble through the cow’s shaggy coat, transforming a calm, resting animal into a bundle of colour and character. It feels like a Highland evening when the light catches everything just right - familiar but heightened.
“Barn Owl Portrait”
Here, Graham shifts gears into quiet intensity. Against a deep black background, the barn owl seems to emerge from the darkness - soft feathers, a clear heart-shaped face, and eyes that are almost unnervingly present. The detail is meticulous, but the overall effect is simple: one bird, one moment, total focus.
Together, these works show what Graham brings to Cairngorm Artists: bold colour, strong composition, and a love for wildlife that balances character with respect for the animals and their habitats.
Meet Ian Williams – Coastal Light, Shoreline Stories and a Hare in the Heather
Where Graham’s work is high-chroma and expressive, Ian Williams tends towards a more atmospheric, quietly lyrical approach. His paintings often inhabit the spaces where land meets sea, day meets evening, and wild creatures emerge from their surroundings.
Ian is particularly drawn to the rhythms of the coastline and the fleeting glimpses of wildlife that reward patience and careful looking.
Sample artworks by Ian Williams
“Oystercatcher Beach”
In this coastal scene, a stretch of shoreline unfolds beneath a soft, luminous sky. The retreating tide has left a sheen of water on the sand, catching reflections of light and colour. Along the water’s edge, oystercatchers—black, white and bright orange-beaked—stride and pause in small groups, their reflections flickering in the shallows. Ian’s restrained palette and delicate handling of light and texture create a sense of calm and continuity, evoking the sound of gentle waves and distant calls of seabirds.

“Hare”
This piece focuses on a single hare, poised in a landscape of grasses, heather and low-growing plants. The animal’s long ears are pricked, eyes bright and alert, as if it has just become aware of a distant sound. Ian balances detailed observation of the hare’s fur and anatomy with a softer, more impressionistic treatment of the surrounding vegetation. Earthy browns, soft greys and muted greens give the painting a grounded, natural feel, while the hare’s presence introduces a quiet tension—caught between stillness and sudden movement.
Together, works like Oystercatcher Beach and Hare show what Ian brings to the collective: a sensitive, contemplative view of Scottish wildlife and coastline, where light, weather and animal life are all in constant, gentle motion.
Why These Two Artists Matter to Cairngorm Artists
Bringing Graham Moore and Ian Williams into the collective isn’t just about adding more work to a gallery wall. It’s about deepening the story we tell about the Cairngorms and the Scottish landscape as a whole.
- Graham brings energy, colour and character - a celebration of the animals that share these spaces with us.
- Ian offers quiet, atmospheric coastal and upland scenes, where seabirds, hares, light and weather come together in thoughtful, poetic compositions.
Together, they expand the range of what Cairngorm Artists stands for: not a single style, but a shared commitment to seeing this place closely, honestly and with real affection.
